Pushing the Limit: Allen Patten Shatters Unlimited Track Record at Carolina Motorsports Park

In the world of high-level time attack, the difference between a podium finish and a historic milestone is often the team’s ability to survive the setbacks. We’ve been watching the development of Allen Patten and his Louis Gigliotti-built (LGR) C7 Corvette all season, and their recent performance at the GRIDLIFE South Carolina Festival at Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) marks a definitive moment for the program.

After a catastrophic transmission failure on Thursday, most teams would have loaded the trailer. Instead, the LGR crew flew in parts from Texas, wrenched through the night, and had the car back on grid in under 24 hours. The result? A new overall Unlimited Class track record of 1:28.544.

Engineering the Breakthrough

This build is a masterclass in aggressive development. Pushing 950hp via an LT4 bottom-end paired with an LT5 supercharger, the C7 has been transformed from a street toy into a production-based monster. LGR’s bespoke fabrication, including lowering the engine position for a better center of gravity, a 6-stage Dailey dry sump system, and a custom lay-down radiator, shows the level of engineering required to survive the Unlimited class.

We are proud to see our Zebulon aero package, specifically our wing, splitter, and diffuser, playing a critical role in balancing this machine. When you have this much power and a flat-floor chassis, the stability provided by efficient downforce is exactly what allows a driver like Allen to commit to high-speed corners with confidence.

Why It Matters

Seeing a shop-built, production-based vehicle reset the benchmark at one of the country's most demanding tracks is the ultimate validation of a "no-compromise" approach. It highlights why we do what we do here at Zebulon: to provide the aerodynamic stability that lets world-class drivers turn raw, unhinged power into record-breaking lap times.

Congratulations to Allen Patten and the entire LGR family. We’re already looking forward to seeing this flame-throwing C7 in action at Watkins Glen later this month.
